Jackie Ryan is a Brisbane-based artist. She writes and designs Burger Force, an Aurealis Award–winning comic book series about an undercover pop-culture detective agency. The comics feature heavily modified photographs of performers from the Australian stage and screen, and include striking Brisbane architecture. Ryan is also the founding editor of the comedy writing collective Fanciful Fiction Auxiliary, which has appeared at Brisbane Powerhouse, Brisbane Writers Festival, and Woodford Folk Festival. National Library of Australia has archived the websites of both projects as sites of cultural significance. Jackie holds a PhD in history and political science from The University of Queensland. Her non fiction book We’ll Show the World: Expo 88 (UQP 2018) won the Queensland Literary Award for a history book and the Queensland Premier’s Award for a Work of State Significance.

Ryan has worked with CREATIVEMOVE to create Burger Force–style art on a billboard art in Griffin Lane (off Ann Street in the Brisbane CBD) and in Light Boxes in Hutton Lane as part of the Brisbane City Council’s Vibrant Laneways program.
