Di Mauro’s Scuta works comprises ten wall-based sculptures, woven from red, orange and yellow neoprene material which suggests the emission of an uncanny sense of heat. These works vary in scale from the smallest work at 84 x 59 x 26 cm to 120 x 88 x 32 cm. The series grew out of the public commission Blind spot, a wall sculpture in three parts, which took its circular forms from the sun. Di Mauro is interested in the metaphorical associations fire has with regeneration and renewal, destruction and purification and energy spent, harnessed or contained. An essay by Simone Jones on this series is available on request.
