Flying Arts Web TV – Connecting with Commercial Galleries with Jan Manton of Jan Manton Art
On Monday, 24 June, CREATIVEMOVE Director, John Stafford had the privilege of interviewing Queensland commercial gallery director, Jan Manton of Jan Manton Art about Connecting with Commercial Galleries. This interview is part of the ongoing series of webinars presented by Flying Arts Web TV – Artist Talks program.
Jan Manton is a long-time supporter of the visual arts in Queensland. A former President of Flying Arts she supports young artists through the Byran-Manton Art Prize for QUT Visual Art Graduates. Jan has served on the QUT Art Collection Committee; the Steering Committee for the Harries Digital Art Award; the Caboolture Shire Council Art Collection Committee; and was Chair of the fundraising campaign for the QUT Art Museum in 2004. Jan is an approved Valuer of Contemporary Australian Art (from 1970 to the present) in paintings, prints and sculpture for the Australian Government’s Culture Gifts Program. She has worked for Sotheby’s, Deutscher Menzies Fine Art Auctioneers and most recently MossGreen Auctioneers.
Jan tackled the topic of Connecting with Commercial Galleries in a presentation comprised of three components –the Artist; the Gallery; and the Artist-Gallery Relationship – interspersed with questions. During the interview Jan provided valuable insight into each of these key areas with tips and do’s and don’ts from an experienced and articulate perspective.
